This week we recognize Chairman Jim Hemmer, volunteer of 12 years with the Sullivan County, Upper New York Friends of NRA.
Hemmer had a fantastic year in 2016 having sold 286 banquet tickets bringing in nearly $27,000, raised $5,800 in pre and post-event raffles, arranged underwriting for 30 items equaling $11,500, and acquired over 100 donations valued over $10,000. This year, he’s determined to surpass each of those numbers.
“Jim had a vision when he became chairman four years ago,” said NRA Field Representative Jay Rusnock. “He wanted to make Sullivan County the number one committee in New York.”
That determination set a goal for Jim and his committee.
He assembled a team, implemented his plans, and stayed focus to see things through. Jim organized a fundraising trip to Washington, D.C. for a weekend of sightseeing and a stop at NRA Headquarters generating more than $2,000; he inspired his committee to support and work with local charities granting them the opportunity to talk about Friends at a grassroots level; and volunteered at local children’s events who’ve benefitted from a grant received by The NRA Foundation.
“Jim is patient, committed, confident, and creative,” said Rusnock. The perfect blend of qualities needed to steer this committee to the top while spreading the mission of Friends across the state.
