Calling high school sophomores and juniors who are looking for the educational experience of a lifetime! Don’t miss the chance to apply for the 2018 NRA Youth Education Summit before the January deadline. You could be the next scholarship winner and the face of NRA programs in your community.
The National Rifle Association invites high school sophomores and juniors across the nation to apply for the Youth Education Summit (Y.E.S.), an all-expense-paid week-long educational experience in Washington, D.C.
In 2018, the Youth Education Summit (Y.E.S.) is growing to two, one-week sessions: session one will be held from July 9-15, 2018, and session two will be held from July 23-29, 2018. Applications for both sessions must be post-marked by Friday, January 12, 2018.
Y.E.S. provides an engaging experience that encourages young adults to become active and knowledgeable citizens by learning about the Constitution and Bill of Rights, the federal government and the importance of being involved in civic affairs. Activities on the agenda include meeting with members of Congress, hearing from guest speakers at NRA Headquarters, participating in competitive debates, and touring historic sites and monuments in the DC Metro area. Making lasting friendships and discovering career and volunteer callings are just some of the other amazing things that our participants gain during their time at Y.E.S.
“Before attending Y.E.S., I did not know much about what the NRA stands for or the impact it makes in our communities,” said 2012 participant Bethany Janzen of Happy Valley, Ore. “Y.E.S. showed me how the NRA encourages firearm safety, shooting sport participation, and, most importantly, fights to protect our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.”
Attendees also compete for $15,000 in college scholarships, which will be awarded at the end of each session. Scholarships are awarded to students who excel in the week’s activities through demonstrating strong leadership, public speaking, and debate skills. Once they arrive back home, students may apply for an additional $25,000 in scholarships available to those who share the Y.E.S. experience and other NRA Foundation-supported programs with their communities. Thanks toFriends of NRA fundraising and grants provided by The NRA Foundation, more than $540,000 in scholarships have been awarded since the program’s inception in 1996.
Entry into the program requires submission of a completed application form, a high school transcript, a three-page essay on the Second Amendment, a personal statement, and three letters of recommendation. Those interested must have their application post-marked no later than January 12, 2018.
