Eastern Mountain Sports

Eastern Mountain Sports was founded by two fishing buddies in the 1960's. Realizing there was a growing market for outdoor gear in the Northeast, they decided to shift careers (one was a lawyer and the other was a hotel manager) to open their first store in Wellesley, Massachusetts.

L.L. Bean

Leon Leonwood (L.L.) Bean began his business in the basement of his brother's apparel shop. He pride himself to never miss an opportunity to improve service to his customers and by 1951, he opened the store 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. To this day, there are no locks on its flagship store in Freeport to honor the founders dedication to customer service.

Orvis

The first Orvis shooting school, based on the long-standing British model, began training upland bird hunters in 1973. This program has also successfully grown to include schools such as Mays Pond Plantation in Monticello, Florida, and Orvis's shooting preserve at Orvis Sandanona in Millbrook, New York.
