In an attempt to reach a broader market, Colt offered downsized percussion models with shorter barrels, but retaining full-size .36 caliber capability. This nicely engraved Colt Model 1862 Police revolver was made around 1864 and features a half-fluted cylinder. During most of the percussion era, Colt usually marked components like the frame, barrel and backstrap with an "E" near the serial number to signify an “engraved” revolver.
