NRA Foundation Awards $16,000 in College Scholarships
FAIRFAX, Va. – The NRA Foundation awarded a total of $16,000 in college scholarships to attendees of the 2015 Youth Education Summit (Y.E.S.), a seven-day expense paid educational experience in Washington, DC for rising high school juniors and seniors.
Held July 27 - August 2, Y.E.S. encourages young adults to become active and knowledgeable U.S. citizens by learning about the Constitution, Bill of Rights and the federal government. Since the program’s inception in 1996, more than $480,000 in scholarships have been awarded. The following students received scholarships based on their display of leadership qualities and performance in debates and speeches conducted over the course of the week:
2015 Y.E.S. End-of-Week Scholarships:
$3,500: Caleb Daniels, Lee’s Summit, Missouri
$2,500: Hunter Hackworth, Pax, West Virginia
$2,500: Elijah Sheffield, Harrison, Arkansas
$2,500: Bonita Wyatt, Clover, South Carolina
$1,000: Cole Diggins, Moundville, Missouri
$1,000: Savannah Easter, Amelia, Virginia
$1,000: Riaz Lane, Tyner, North Carolina
$1,000: Marisa Laudadio, Walnut, Mississippi
$1,000: Nicholas McGrath, Hampton, Minnesota
“The Youth Education Summit has awarded more than $480,000 in college scholarships over its 20-year history,” said Executive Director of NRA General Operations Kyle Weaver. “We are proud to assist the next generation of competitive shooters, hunters, and firearms enthusiasts pursue their dreams through higher education.”
