Salt Lake City, Utah - You can learn how to hunt wild turkeys at free seminars in Logan and Salt Lake City.

At the seminars, you'll learn how to set up for and call turkeys. The type of equipment you need, and how to hunt turkeys safely, will also be covered.

Each seminar begins at 6 p.m.

The first seminar will be held April 24 at the Cache Valley Public Shooting Range, 2851 W. 200 N. in Logan. The second seminar will be held April 30 at the Lee Kay Public Shooting Range, 6000 W. 2100 S. in Salt Lake City.

Dean Mitchell, an avid turkey hunter and Conservation Outreach Section chief for the Division of Wildlife Resources, says attending a seminar is the perfect way to prepare for Utah's upcoming general statewide turkey hunt.

"A lot of hunters in Utah want to hunt turkeys," Mitchell says, "but they're not sure where to start. You can change that by attending a seminar. You'll receive all of the basic information you need to feel confident enough to go afield and have a good experience."

Mitchell says the seminars aren't just for beginning hunters, though. "Even experienced hunters should learn a thing or two," he says.

Members of the Utah chapter of The National Wild Turkey Federation will teach the seminars. David Worwood, Utah NWTF chapter president, says he and members of his chapter are excited to participate.

"We're excited to share our knowledge and passion about the wild turkey," Worwood says. "Each of us have hunted turkeys in Utah for years. If you're interested in hunting these birds, please attend this seminar. We'll teach you how to be successful and safe."

After attending, you can use the skills you learn during Utah's general statewide turkey hunt. The hunt begins April 28. Permits for the hunt are not limited in number, so you'll have no problem getting one.
